| How
did Youth for Human Rights get started? What
is Youth for Human Rights?
Youth for Human Rights Australia (YRHA) is a group
of youth and adults from all walks of life who aim
to educate youth on a document called the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR). This was
signed on December 10 in 1948 to help bring peace
and goodwill to all nations of the world. It contains
30 basic human rights.
Youth for Human Rights Australia is part of Human
Rights and Responsibilities Inc. (HRRA) is a registered
non-profit association in NSW. Human Rights and
Responsibilities Australia (HRRA) is an independant,
non-political and nonn-religious body. It was established
in 2004 by President, Colston Vowles and Vice President,
Cecile Vowles, and with the support of the Church
of Scientology. Colston and Cecile are former members
of the Executive Committee of the United Nations
Association of Australia in NSW for many years.
Colston was also the Convener of the Human Rights
Committee while Cecile was also a National Vice
President of the UNAA.
Chapters of YHRA have since been set up in Sydney,
Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide. YHRA helped establish
Youth for Human Rights New Zealand which is now
a partner with the New Zealand Human Rights Commission
in their Diversity Actions Programme.
